Hello all,

Interesting new approach to forum membership here now, on the face of it, one which will lead to a shrinking band of viewers ? and in its own way maybe even harking back to the old Guild System ??

I like to drop by every once in a while, and Lurk having been bashing metal on my own account for some 30 years now, its always good to see how others may have figured out how to skin the proverbial cat.

When I'm hitting tin for money, its generally making sheetware for Brough Superior Motorcycles.

If the vast effort required to post an introduction runs off any potential metal shapers, I'll wager they're not that interested in the craft anyway.

As Joe said, our viewers and active members have increased considerably since we went to the new scheme. Quite a few of the previous non-posters have made several posts with considerable contributions since they did their introduction.

We're not interested in accumulating members. We don't sell advertising and have no need for big numbers of views. We just want members of our community to participate as their part of paying for the site.

In addition, this approach is a much better way to keep out the Harbor Freight and other industrial spies and other spammers.

How many pieces on the Brooklyn cans? I can not see your weld seams at all. I would guess 8

There's no baffles, the body, 3 pieces, is from 16 gauge, with the tail piece, 2 halves, from 18 gauge with a 3mm wire around.

Really, its an oddity, in the pre war days when the racing guys only needed these things at Brooklands, to assuage the complaints of the residents near the track, most of these cans were knocked together with a crudeness that was almost spectacular Generally a can would have a couple of 12x6mm bands around the body, and some sort of fin in the triangular space between the fish tail and back of body, in an attempt to cut down the resonance ?

I imagine the one in the photo, with no bands, must resonate pretty badly
