Hi,
My name is Jon and I live in the South Island of New Zealand. I'm currently restoring a 1974 Ford Mk1 Escort and have joined to hopefully learn some new skills as I'm pretty new to panel beating. I'm particularly interested in making my own panels and tools to help me get the car finished and back on the road.

Hi Richard,
Thanks for that The Escort is nothing to special, just a wee 2 door 1100. But it's been great fun driving it around and slowly making it go, stop and look a bit better. Sadly there's a bit of rust showing up and some signs of previous poor repairs so I thought it's best to get it sorted so I can get back to driving it. I'll post some pictures up showing where I'm at with it.

Hi Jon - a really, really bad one... A Group 5 Replica BMW E21 from the mid 70's, a 600hp turbo 2.5 M50 engine, sequential from TT Industries in Nelson, pretty much a space frame and the start of all alloy panels. Hoping for 1000kgs

Link is on my signoff and the car so far was featured in this months NZ Performance Car. Also have a more panel oriented build thread on here http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=13829

good luck with the mk1! they all seem to be finding there way back to the uk and Ireland as the prices have gone through the roof, and still climbing!

not sure about the shells that you guys got over there but the shells in oz I've seen are type 49's

i did the metal work on a mates mk1 before i left the uk back in 08, he's a spray painter by trade and quite anal at times lol http://www.pgdesigns.co.uk/blogInner...logID=23&id=23

Hi Neil, thank you yeah it's amazing how they rot in the UK, no wonder they are getting shipped over there, although I see new Mk2 shells are now being developed somewhere in China. I think most shells here are the normal non-type 49 variant with a few type 48 GTs and Sports. Mine is a UK built car but got shipped here early in it's life.

My god I'm in envy of both your skills, that BMW is fantastic Richard and the Mk1 is a lovely looking piece of kit well done to you both.
