Hi Carrie welcome to the forum.
To do the thing you mention you would need couple of different shape bench heads , a wooden stump ,a small blocking hammer, a stretching hammer ,and a plenishing hammer, may be a small sand bag. a few different shape hand dollies, a vice and some clamps .As your skill improves you can start making your own shape blunt chisels and sets and small dies for various jobs etc etc. Material ..well start with aluminium then you can move on to brass and copper or stainless
