Dewey, welcome, hope you enjoy the site. You say you are retired, wonder what you retired from. What do you want to learn from the site?

I haven't had sufficient time to browse all of the forums but I have been blown away just by the "Automotive Projects" section, so I am certain there is a great deal to see and learn in other areas as well. Mostly, I anticipate finding a great deal of inspiration as well as learning new and better metal shaping techniques.

I have scratch built a couple metal bodies (pics below) but my methods and my tools are far more crude than what I am seeing here on All Metal Shaping. As I noted in my OP, I still consider myself an amateur in spite of the cars I have completed. There is always much more to learn and much better ways of doing things.

I built this roadster back in 2004-2005.

More recently I fabricated this Sedan/Delivery/Pickup. I used the same "skeleton and skin" building technique as I did with the roadster.

I remember seeing your cars on the HAMB and thinking that there is an easier way to accomplish what you had done. Your results are good but with metal shaping you would have less welding and a smoother finish. You can also put in belt lines, beads, that will improve the overall looks of the body.

Dewey , what part of the northwoods are you in ? I have done quite a bit of snowmobiling in the Cable , Hearly, and Bayfield areas.Have you given any thought into coming over for our Oct. metal gathering in Dennison ? Steve Hamilton from Fondulac is comming over and is a fantastic contact for advanced learning (and a great guy as well ) Welcome Dan

I'm in Lac du Flambeau, so not too awfully far from the Cable area. And due to my newbie status here, I wasn't aware of the Dennison gathering. Is there a thread or other posting about it?

If you have the time to go to the meet you should do so. You will meet a lot of talented people and Dan's shop is well equipped so you can see and use all kinds of tools used to shape metal. You can learn more at a meet in a very short time than you can reading about it and trying to learn on your own.
