Hello Paul. welcome to allmetalshaping!. You don't need a template, Look at the designs of others and copy the shape. I use one on my youtube footage which is different to some I see on here, It is easy to make and is balanced in use, It is simply made from an old leaf spring.

Hey Paul,
Welcome to Allmetalshaping, We call them flippers in Australia and as David said they are easily made. I have made all of mine from files of different sorts, a second cut file about 14" long cut and bent will do also. I leave the teeth on too, it helps to see where you have been the marks are easily filed off later. Half round files are also good for different applications and for chasing in a radius, you can also sand off the teeth for a smooth flipper if a smooth finish is desired.

Welcome Paul,

If you're looking for wooden slapper profiles:

Just enlarge until they fit your needs. You can make them from anything from pallet wood to fancy hardwoods. Most people cover the impact faces with leather.

Hi Paul, welcome to the site. You will learn a lot of helpful hints. As far as the slappers (or flippers in Australia), I have seen them made out of old files or if you dont like the teeth I have also seen them made out of old leaf springs shaped to suit, sanded and polished.
