Okie Lurker
Long time Lurker, as many lurkers have said before, not sure how much I have to contribute. I have enjoyed DIY stuff all my life especially with cars; DIY has been necessary to afford what I want. I have done lots of hobby welding and fiberglass shaping but never any sheet metal shaping, metal shaping looks a lot less itchy. My wife has supported my garage addiction well. I have been researching, stealing ideas from everyone on HF bead roller and hope to build one soon. I have done lots of polishing, especially on aluminum so that might be the only thing I can contribute if there is a question on that. Speaking of polishing this is a great deal on a 10" polisher. I have this one and it has lots of power. If you have never used a buffer be careful this thing can hurt you. There is plenty of polishing videos on YouTube watch these before using a buffer. A blast shield is a must. http://www.eastwood.com/ew-buff-moto...p-2-speed.html I hope it is ok to post links, did not see anything about that in the rules. I know polishing is not shaping but some may want to polish after shaping. Last thing, thanks to all the talented poster willing to share their talents.

Kevin, Welcome to the site and thanks for the introduction. One trick with polishing that you may already know is to rub the surface with corn starch after you are finished polishing. This will remove the wax and other materials that are used in the polishing compounds. Really makes it shine. Thanks for joining us here.

Metal Shaping Invite
Howdy Kevin,
A hardy welcome from a Texas guy! If you are interested in attending a metal shaping gathering sorta close to you, I would like to invite you to one our metal shaping gatherings in Granbury Texas. Nothing fancy, just a small friendly, loosely formed, non-official bunch getting together and teaching some of the basics for the newbies plus working on some of our personal projects. As for distance traveled for you, it would be like traveling down to the Ft. Worth area. We will probably be holding another gathering in the Spring of next year. Peace, Chaz |
Hey Chaz.
Is that open to anyone interested in metal shaping? I am also from Oklahoma, so Ft Worth is pretty close as well for me. Thanks. |
Hi Randy,
Of course! If you have a desire to learn more about metal shaping you are welcome. We admit we don't know everything but great forums like this one make it all possible for us to learn from each other. Peace, Chaz |
Chaz.
Will you be posting the time and dates? Thanks |
Yes, we will be posting time and place.
Check out these 2 Threads here on Allmetalshaping under "search": Granbury Metal Shaping Gathering a Success! July 24th Metal Shapers Gathering in Granbury Texas Peace, Chaz |
