Hello All
My name is james, age 49, and live in Northern Ireland.
Started my carreer as a car mechanic, before working as an Aircraft Fitter/Mechanic for Bombardier. Had enough experience to come over to the states and obtain my FAA A&P Licence. Post 911, and no work in the aircraft game, I then went on to work on rolling stock (trains), mostly as performance and warranty technician, and some body overhaul contracts. I now have custody of my 10yr old son, so I'm now working locally as a quarry plant mechanic, which I enjoy apart from the dust.
Currently restoring a Ford 7910 4x4 tractor cab (rotten) for the Quarry owner, have a Ford Escort MK1 RS2000 rally replica project my son and I are working on,(to be his 1st road car in 7yrs time, we hope!) Also got a Cummins 6BT powered Landrover conversion going on!
Just bought a cheap shrinker/stretcher & bead roller, to go along with already owned shear, folder, and all my hand/air/ electric and aircraft sheet metal tools. just cut up a couple of co2 bottles to use the bottoms for hammering into. Just got a couple of oak tree slabs for hollowing out. Now into making tools for my 30t press (forming/bending). Also wanting to get into the heavy stuff & build a power hammer, planishing hammer and a decent eng wheel.
My son is really keen to learn about making panels etc. He can already mig weld pretty good!
thanks
JIM

Welcome to the forum, Jim.
Your broad experience will always be helpful. (Cummins Landrover? The frames are good, unsure of axles and gear box...)

Thankyou Kent and Peter.

Ref the Landrover!

Cummins came coupled with a 5sp ZF box that came from a DAF truck. Also comes with a compressor and PTO hyd pump. Similar to an old Ford F250 set up.
Landrover LWB 110 models came with a salsbury rear axle, which is based on a Dana 60. Not brilliant but definatly better than the basic LR axles. Gonna be running on 37'S and high ratio transfer box to help with road gearing. Gonna be a tool carrier / service vehicle, with on board air, and hyd driven generator/welder. Occasional off road play time vehicle too!

thanks
jim

Very intrigued with your RS2000 replica project- I really like those cars.
