Please Help me to get started
Hi, my name is Carrie and I would love to learn new skills to make stylish aluminium bowls and pieces of art for my home.
I need to find out the best tools and materials I will need to get started. I can remember many years ago tapping aluminium into bowls and would love to have another go. Please help me with your ideas to help get me started. Thanks :) |
Hi Carrie welcome to the forum.
To do the thing you mention you would need couple of different shape bench heads , a wooden stump ,a small blocking hammer, a stretching hammer ,and a plenishing hammer, may be a small sand bag. a few different shape hand dollies, a vice and some clamps .As your skill improves you can start making your own shape blunt chisels and sets and small dies for various jobs etc etc. Material ..well start with aluminium then you can move on to brass and copper or stainless Peter |
Hi Carrie and Welcome to the forum.
Find a learner driver, you will slot into metal shaping no problem.:D A couple of friends of ours, their teenage boys have now their learner permits and are allowed to drive, and now I have a couple of smallish jobs waiting in the wings. Cheers John |
Thanks
Hi Peter
Thank you so much for your advice. You have been a great help and I can't wait to start my new hobby. I was thinking of making my own leather sand bag. I will be shopping online straight away now I know what to buy. I will post a picture of my first attempt at a bowl.!! Sorry, another question, what is the best thickness of metal to work with? Thanks Carrie |
