Erskine 5 window coupe
I am building a 1930 Erskine coupe street rod that I have owned since the mid 70's. I sold my last street rod in 1995 to finish my oldest son's 72 Chevelle. I have done cars for my 2 son's since then. I retired in 2007 and now it is my turn to have a street rod again. Being it is a Erskine I knew I was going to have to make most of the needed repairs myself and I want to do this car better than any of the other ones I have done. I found out that Dan Pate, who I have known since the seventies, lived near me and was doing metal work. I started attending his gatherings and have been learning about metal shaping. I have made several pieces for the Erskine and it is progressing, but not as fast as I would like. I hope to drive it this summer in primer with the chassis painted and finished. I can't thank Dan, Leo, Joe and Richard enough for all their help. :-)

Great to see you posting Dave. Missed the car this meet. Beautiful!!!

Dave, welcome and thanks for the introduction. Hope you find the site enjoyable and helpful. Thanks for joining us. Going to one of the metal shaping events at Dan's will greatly reduce the time it takes to learn how to make the metal move where you want it.

I would also like to thank Larry, Jeff and all the other folks at Dan's that have helped me.

I never even heard of an Erskine until I saw yours at Dans. It's a cool car! Good seeing you posting up an intro. Get some pictures up. The rear panels you and Leo made were nice! You should post some pictures of the top that's been giving you fits. Maybe someone here will have some ideas for you.

Good to see you cracked the code. Thanks again for all your help in preparing and cleanup after .It takes good freinds to pull these things off. You should be quite happy in your progress with the coupe.

Erskine
Hi Dave
I have what I think is a body to a 1927 erskine but missing a lot like the doors, trunk lid, fire wall, pretty much just old rusty cab. Any idea how to tell what year this body is and do you have more pics on how you built body panels? Thanks shaun |
Erskine info
Hi Shaun
I have a 1930 Erskine 5 window coupe. I started with a body and a frame. No suspension, motor, tranny or rear end. The body was complete, but rusty in some areas and the frame was repairable. I have made a studebaker hot rod out of mine. It has stude motor and rear end with S10 5 speed manual tranny. I made my patch panels and roof at metal meets that we have locally. I started on mine in January 2009 and it is driveable in primer. Hope to paint it next winter. There is a Erskine registry online and I am in the antique studebaker club. The registry has lots of pictures to help identify your car. Do you have the frame? It should have a serial number tag and a stamped serial number. Does your firewall have a body number tag? You can e-mail at zumrodrs@charter.net and my cell is 507-993-6269. I will be glad to help you anyway I can. Dave |
Ha Dave
My body needs lots of work, it's missing the firewall, doors, rear trunk lid, and frame. I'm going to build my own frame and I have a dodge 318ci. With auto trans and dodge 8 1/4 rear end. Hope to have frame done this summer then start body next winter when I can't go outside.
Sorry for slow response I get caught up in all my side jobs and forget to look online |
